It is with great sadness and sorrow I write this goodbye to one of my favorite Hip Hop artists of all time, Dwight Arrington Myers better known as Heavy D. As the front man of Heavy D & the Boyz, he was a truly gifted artist who didn’t get the publicity of other artists during his time. “Now That We Found Love” was one of his most popular songs and lead others to believe that what his style. However on the first album “Livin’ Large” Heavy D can be heard flowing like the best MC of his era on the tracks, "Mr. Big Stuff", "We Got Our Own Thang" and the Reggae inspired "Gyrlz, They Love Me". His verse on BDP's “Self-Destruction” collaboration clearly displayed his depth.

A true fan appreciates the originality of artists like Heavy D that made us love Hip Hop so much and reminds us of a time when Hip Hop was so diverse and great. Much unlike today’s Hip Hop artists or should I say copycats who rule the airwaves. Artists like Heavy D shouldn’t be forgotten and he won’t be as he left behind an array of music from albums like Big Tyme, Peaceful Journey, Nuttin’ But Love, to his full length Reggae album that earned him a Grammy nod, Vibes and his most recent release Love Opus.

Heavy rocked collaborations before they were the thing to do. He also displayed his acting talents on shows like Living Single, The Tracy Morgan Show and movies such as “Life” and “The Cider House Rules”. I have "Nuttin But Love" for Heavy D. As we mourn his death on earth, he and Trouble T. Roy are keeping it live for the man upstairs. From a Gyrl that truly loved you, I bid you farewell on your “Peaceful Journey”.
