ALBUM REVIEW

Artist: Deviants Of Reality
Album: Love Sex And Situation
Exec. Producer:
Label:
Release Date: January 23, 2007

With so much Hip-Pop crowding the music scene, it's hard to find anything innovative or refreshing. This leads many Hip Hop heads no alternative but to scour the country & even the globe for those independent artists & labels that are doing something different. The duo Deviants Of Reality [DJ Alex J & Udig The Menta] out of New Jersey is one such group.

The problem i usually have with most indie Hip Hop albums is that the production tends to be very weak. This is not the case with Love Sex & Situation. The album is a blend of Jazz infused beats that reminds me of artists like A Tribe Called Quest or Camp Lo. Tracks were produced by Group member DJ Alex J and make this album one of the better indie albums I've heard in a long while.

Another plus for this album is lyrical content. A far cry from the money , cars & ho's theme found in most of today's Hip Hop. When women are talked about, they are not objectified or degraded but revered & respected. There are also tracks about making it and relationships. The place where this album falters a bit is in the flow of the MC's. Sometime's they feel like their trying to get to much across in a single verse & end up sounding rushed or off-beat on some of the tracks. Not a deal breaker but a little jarring when listening.

Overall as far as indie releases go this is one of the better ones. If you find yourself reminiscing about the good old days of Hip Hop or think that Most of today's Hip Hop music is all the same, then this one is definitly worth checking out.
