Syleena Johnson is back with her fourth album Chapter 4: Labor Pains. The album is filled with tracks that illustrate the ins and outs of being in love. Johnson explores all phases of love, the beauty of love and the ugly of love. She also addresses some of today's pressing issues like the love of money and material items, relationships, etc.

Labor Pains is the perfect analogy of love and Johnson does a wonderful job conveying the message. She describes love to be painful (as labor is) but with rewarding results, especially when one finds true love. Her album is a reflection of many accomplishments in her life; releasing this album on her own record label Aneelys, marrying her love and the birth of her son. Most women who have experienced labor will have a true appreciation of the album as she addresses the struggles of being a woman. However anyone will find enjoyment in the album.

The first single "It Is True" sort of has a Supremes feel and is dedicated to her husband. In the song she describes finding love and knowing the love is real; she sings

"I need you, I love you, you are my knight in shining armor."
The single is one of many highlights on the album.

The title track "Labor Pains" starts the album (after an intro) strong, with motivational lyrics and nice production. "Where's the Love", "Freedom" and "Is It Because I am Black" address many issues in everyday life. The next few tracks are dedicated to relationship woes, "You Let Me Down" is a song/story of a cheating mate, on "Shoo Fly" she sings to the previous woman a.k.a. baby's mama which leads right into "Maury Povich" - no explanation needed.

The last part of the album ultimately describes the beauty of love with sexy, passionate tracks like "Your Love", "My First" and "Personal Trainer" you can just imagine a steamy, sexy love scene.

Johnson continues to provide the world with relevant music and sultry songs, she is a true R & B artist. Her songs provide the listening audience with melodic rhythms and well written lyrics of blues that we all experience at some point in our lives. She sings like a storyteller tells stories, painting the picture with such passion that you will want to listen to the album over and over again.
